It’s time to settle back into a comfortable chair or chaise longue and book in some leisurely reading time. The following books are all works of fiction but are based on the lives or works of famous artists. Well written historical fiction transports us to another place and time where we can slip in amongst the characters and get a sense of what it was like to be there and perhaps better understand what is behind the paintings and artists we know and love.
The following books are on my reading list:
Luncheon of the Boating Party by Susan Vreeland (about Pierre-Auguste Renoir);
The Painted Kiss by Elizabeth Hickey (about Gustav Klimt);
Claude & Camille: A novel of Monet by Stephanie Cowell;
Depths of Glory: A Biographical Novell of Camille Pisarro by Irving Stone;
Dancing for Degas by Kathryn Wagner;
Sunflowers by Sheramy Bundrick (A novel of Vincent Van Gogh);
Lydia Cassatt Reading the Morning Paper by Harriet Scott Chessman (about Mary Cassat).
